The Red Crystals are prominently shown as embedded in any machinery they contaminate. When a boss containing a Red Crystal is destroyed, the Red Crystal flies away. At the end of each game, the Red Crystals from the destroyed bosses encountered earlier gather into one location and attack the player together, with one larger Red Crystal serving as the "core" and primary target of the final boss fight.
